Caring for people living with dementia
Support for loved ones, for families, for life.
About Us
Benslow is a family run company, founded by Stephen and Susan McQuinn in 1982. They were born, grew up and still live in Hertfordshire. They met and were married in 1973, in Watford and have 6 children. Their children have all worked at the homes in one form or another over the past 40 years. From delivering the tea round as a Saturday job in the 1980s to Human Resources manager in 2000s to finance director and managing director until 2023.
We are committed to providing good quality care and listen carefully to the view of people who use our services. Deborah Langton joined us in 2023 as Operations Director and is now the appointed nominated individual. All three of our homes achieved a ‘GOOD’ rating in the Hertfordshire provider inspections 2024 (PAMMS) with several areas also achieving ‘OUTSTANDING’.
Our aim is for every resident to be enabled to lead a happy, comfortable life amongst people who really care for them. This philosophy extends to our care team, family members, friends and the care environment.
We don’t believe in starting with a persons limitations, we’d rather concentrate on their strengths. Life is long and complicated but care shouldn’t be. If we love one another, support one another and stay true to our principles we can find peace and happiness. . . which seems like a good thing to aim for.
Our Approach
Our motto is ‘Big enough to cope, small enough to care’, which reflects the ethos of working collaboratively with clients, families, staff and healthcare professionals across each individual home and across the group as a whole. Our approach allows us to share knowledge and experience, explore big ideas and roll out new initiatives whilst also retaining an individual, intimate atmosphere within each of the homes.
The homes are run as individual entities, responsible for their own budgets, staffing and vision. However they are part of a group, which provides support, through constructive professional feedback and operational stability.
The fundamentals
Everything you would expect is in place from a skilled and fully trained team providing high quality care; personalised care planning and person centred care; nutritional home cooked meals prepared in our kitchens; comfortable, well appointed rooms, individually decorated to your tastes; regular care reviews and family feedback sessions; a range of activities and past times on offer; access to healthcare professionals from occupational therapists to mental well being practitioners;
But as well as the fundamentals, we think it’s the little things that set our group apart.
A familiar face, a comforting smile, someone who knows you and can read your cues, even if you aren’t able to communicate so well. . . the human touch.
Whats on Offer
We offer a mix of nursing and residential placements across our 3 homes, all of which have particular expertise caring for people living with dementia.
We offer a home for life, we will look after you until the end of your life, even if your health deteriorates if its safe to do so we will care for you. Even if your finances are exhausted, we will help you move to a new funding stream.
We do not believe it is right or appropriate to force someone from their home when they are at their most vulnerable.
... and so we promote transparency, honesty and integrity across our teams, from senior managers to our student placements.
